Freedom Jazz Dance Right before my lungs went out on me I was playing out at least 3 times a month - jazz standards. I loved it. I grew up laying in front of my parents long wooden console. Turn table, AM & FM and wide band radio with space to store your 45s, 78s, and LP's in the ends. I would lay with my head placed right between the speakers for hours. Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, The Jacky Gleason Hour, Coltrane, Mancini, Sinatra, Ella, Nancy Wilson. I love it all. I love singing it all. And I must admit I am not a purist, I also love Jazz fusion. During the 70s and 80's I grooved to Aija, ARS, John MacLaughlon, Chick Corea. Herbie Hanc---. Played them on the piano. Played the piano part for Claud Bollings "Suite for Classical piano and Jazz flute". Played most of his piano music. His and Chic Corea. It's what I love to improvise most on both the piano and the violin. Latin jazz, Afro jazz, World jazz. I love it all. In Seattle we are fortunate enough to have the FolkLife Festival. Indigenous music from all over the world. One year I heard a jazz performance with an upright bass, a sax, and a digeridoo. It was phenomenal. Thats what I love about Seattle. We are a city that is open to any combination of instruments. And that is why I love jazz - it it can be played on any instrument.
