passionate about jazz jazz washes away the dust of ordinary life"--Art Blakely. yeah, that perfectly expresses how I feel. i love & respect the whole authentic jazz tradition, from JellyRoll & Bechet onwards. but the musicians who've really grabbed & moved me come from the "free jazz" movement & their progeny: Ornette Coleman, Dolphy, Coltrane, Steve Coleman etc. ah, but also THEIR progenitors: Rollins, Monk, Mingus, Miles etc. etc. & Duke, always the Duke. so many artists, so much beauty!
