I love old school jazz - how bout Bessie Smith? Or Charlie Parker, the Byrd, the Trane, Sarah Vaughn, Shirley Horn, Ella, Billie Holiday, and on and on forever....
I sing it as well, professionally - trained in the style of jazz, also love percussion. I study my craft and the history of every singer whose songs I sing, Jazz is this zone - that is for those who lean back and right into it, takes you far into the core of some deeper galactic element of rhythm. The best thing about this genre for me - is ain't no envelope - we push, break through - and any one song is never played the same twice. We get the basic groove then take off like synchronized rockets and make the walls shake - while we play and quake. The rise and fall of waves we create when we too lose ourselves in the moment - taking over us - while we are spot on musically.

Oh yeah, I'd be remiss if I did not mention one of the best scatters of our time in the new generation of jazzers, KURT ELLING. You don't know him, you don't know the - next johnny Hendrix, who is Elling's hero - and I've seen them both together on stage. What an experience! OK, now its time to just listen. shhhhhhhh.
